Any NRN citizen or family intends to register their names as NRN citizens, they may register themselves as NRN citizen. Upon the registration they are eligible for the NRN citizen and can obtain NRN Card.
To obtain NRN ID Card, a prescribed application has to be submitted. Any NRN or his/her family if intends to register his/her name as in the status of NRN, shall submit the application before the Chief of Mission if abroad and before the Secretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) if in Nepal. To obtain NRN ID Card, a prescribed application is submitted with following attached documents.
For Nepalese Citizen residing aboard:
For the foreign citizen of Nepalese origin:
The NRN identity card is valid for 10 years in case of foreign citizen of Nepalese origin subject to visa acquired by him or her. Whereas, the NRN Identity Card of Nepalese citizen residing abroad shall be valid for up to two years. Provided, an identity card may be issued, to a Nepalese citizen who is permitted to reside abroad for more than 2 years by respective foreign state, for such period. A Nepalese citizen residing abroad shall not loose his/her status of nonresident Nepali when he/she has made an investment in Nepal pursuant the Act and in the course of the operation of such industry or business he/she has resided in Nepal in a capacity of a director or high ranking official of management. If a Nepalese citizen residing abroad acquires the citizenship of a foreign country, the identity card obtained by him /her pursuant to the Act shall, ipso facto, be cancelled. If the identity card is cancelled then the concerned Nepalese citizen residing abroad will not be entitled to get any facility and concession in that status pursuant to this Act.

Fees for NRN Card and Renewal
The applicant for NRN Identity shall pay specific fees required to register the name as a non resident Nepalese (NRN) citizen. The fee is determined based on the location of the agency of the application. If the application is made to Nepal, the fee is 1500/- NPR whereas if the application is made to an abroad agency the fee is USD 20.00 Once the application is approved, the foreign citizens of Nepalese origin for Europe, North America, South America, Countries in the Australian Continent, New Zealand, Japan and Korea of Asian Continent shall pay USD 500 for the NRN identity card. Countries other than those mentioned above shall pay USD 250. However, the Nepalese citizen residing abroad shall pay USD 50.00 for the NRN identity card.
